Wukong Developer Responds to Popularity of First Trailer

Game Science founder Feng Ji is responding to the outpouring of support for his studio’s recently released project, Black Myth: Wukong.

Last night, Chinese gaming studio Game Science won the world with a debut 13-minute-long trailer for Black myth: Wukong. The title is a third-person action RPG featuring some of the most impressive graphics we’ve seen this generation. Feng Ji, founder of Game Science, took to Weibo to respond to the enormous increase in popularity in both the game and in the studio as a result.

Resetera user Nightengale translated some of the message that places the most important points below (along with their side notes):

  • He wanted to expand the development team and recruit more people.
  • But could not (or I think) close or wrestle this
  • He just wanted to record an honest trailer for the purpose of recruiting and did not expect to be praised as a sector savior
  • 13 minutes of B1 (I do not know what B1 means – B-roll?)
  • There are a lot of patchwork and rough aspects about what was shared from the trailer
  • He then talks about areas of the game that in his view were still in bad shape
  • what about the animation of small bodies?
  • what about how they made the sculpture / mold of the golden cicada?
  • how the body of water in the trailer completely lacked any liquid physics / any feedback
  • the poor sound depth / implementation
  • how the framerate thanked so badly during the 1,000 enemy musou sequence that it gave her PTSD (not sure if the PTSD referred to the devs or not)
  • hmm, something about how the implementation of fur was still bad compared to hairless skin (I think?)
  • He knows that many people are currently in a depressed state and he is happy to provide some comfort
  • The team is happy that the response to the reveal has been explosive, but they are not letting it get to their heads.
  • Please forget what we have shown from this time on (ps context – it’s more a statement of modesty and how they do not feel if it is necessarily representative of their best work, they also want to do better)
  • We will then hide again to slowly continue, continue, continue to play the game.

Chinese game developers have taken exceptional steps in gaming development as the market these last few years. Currently, there are a bunch of expected games under development at Chinese studios, including Divorce, Clear memory: infinite, and of course the recently announced Black myth: Wukong. One important similarity between all of these projects is their unusually incredible graph to the next-gen.
