Writer ‘Twilight’ Stephenie Meyer wanted to play a DC Superhero Edward Cullen instead of Robert Pattinson

De Twilight saga is without a doubt one of the most popular movie franchises in history, earning more than $ 2.5 one billion at the office and catapult the cast into superstars. Twilight has such an effect that Taylor Swift apparently made a serious attempt to land a role in one of the films.

Nowadays, it is almost impossible to imagine anyone else in the head Twilight roles, but when casting back in 2008 that almost happened. According to Teen Vogue Twilight author Stephenie Meyer first saw a completely different cast. In particular, she had someone in mind to play Edward Cullen who is nothing but Robert Pattinson.

De Twilight films are based on Meyer’s four novels and set in another worldwide – but still very travel – realm where humans collaborate with vampires and werewolves. Stories in all five films follow primarily Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a vampire; Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), a human; and Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), in werewolf.

Bella and Jacob are best friends, but Bella falls in love with Edward and Jacob falls in love with Bella. Since vampires and werewolves are natural enemies, this leads to a number of conflicts. Each of the movies has a different central focus, but all include the love triangle, vampires vs. people vs. werewolves, Bella’s desire to become a vampire, and Edward constantly trying to protect her.

Edward Cullen

Edward is a telepathic teenage vampire who is a member of the “vegetarian” Cullen family. While most vampires eat human blood, the Cullens eat only wild animals, allowing them to live peacefully among humans without detection.

Physically, Edward is extremely attractive and Bella often compares his appearance to the Greek god Adonis, according to the Twilight wiki on Fandom. He is a tortured soul, brooding, protective and hopelessly romantic all in one.

Edward is also incredibly smart and well-trained, and he plays the piano and speaks multiple languages. Once he falls for Bella, Edward’s life lies in protecting her from anything he considers a threat.

In front of Twilight, Pattinson was a largely unknown teen actress, despite having a role in the 2005s Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Has anyone else noticed that Pattinson seems to have an affinity for hugely successful film franchises?

Although he did not have much in the way of handling kettles before playing Edward, the role was apparently just written for Pattinson – he was just as perfectly vampiric. In real life, Pattinson, like Edward, is also a accomplished musician. According to Inside, he sings, writes music, and plays the piano and guitar. Two of his original songs even appeared on the Twilight soundtrack.

Pattinson shares many qualities with Edward, so it’s a little hard to believe he almost did not get the role. Next up, Pattinson has another lead role, this time as Batman in 2021s The Batman. Ironically, the actor Meyer originally wanted as Edward is most famous for playing Superman. Batman v Superman, anyone?

Henry Cavill played Edward hastily

Henry Cavill is best known for playing Superman in a number of DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movies. In the various years for 2013s Man of Steel, Cavill had dozens of minor roles in TV shows and movies, and he apparently caught Meyer’s attention with his sworn features.

ScreenRant reports that Meyer “had a clear vision of how she wanted Edward Cullen to look, and her perfect actor for it was Henry Cavill.” Meyer apparently wanted Cavill in the film to be so bad that she suggested he play Carlisle, Edward’s adoptive father, when she once realized he was too old to play a teenager.

Interestingly, Cavill was never officially approached for both roles. Maybe because he was working on the popular Showtime series The Tudors back then, or maybe the film’s developmental delays really made it so that Cavill was too old to even play the ageless Carlisle.

However, Cavill’s career has been more than just good. He will appear later in 2020 as Sherlock Holmes in Enola Holmes, and he will star again as Superman in Zack Snyder’s Justice League in 2021. Sometimes things actually work out best.
