World of Warcraftthe next extension, Shadowlands, is coming this fall. Players will go to the realm of the dead to explore the mystery of why all souls go to the dreaded Maw to torture forever. Before players appear in the good Shadowlands, Blizzard shows off the four covenants we will be bringing together in a new animated series called Afterlives.
This first animated short debut on Thursday at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live presentation, featuring paladin Uther Lightbringer and the Kyrian Covenant of Bastion.
The fever follows Uther to life hereafter, after he died at the time Warcraft 3. In Bastion, Uther struggles to forget his past life – one of the most important parts of living in Bastion as a servant. According to Uther, Arthas damaged Uther’s soul in Irreparable Warcraft 3 with Frostmourne, who came from the Maw.
An investigation into the power of Arthur’s Lich King sends the Kyrians of Bastion into a long debate. Uther and his guardian angel set out on a mission to punish Arthas, betraying the wishes of the Bastion leaders. These events lead directly to the part of the Bastion of the Shadowlands campaign, because the Cyrians are having a civil war.
Afterlives is in art style and tone very similar to the Warbringer series that preceded Battle of Azeroth, World of Warcraft‘s 2018 expansion. Instead of concentrating on individual characters, Afterlives looks to take a broader look at particular stories, and resolve the conflict in each Covenant Zone before we get started and start solving problems.
Blizzard will launch World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, the eighth expansion of the game, on October 27th.
