A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck 4 months ago SE of Sparta, North Carolina, at 8:07 a.m., waking up thousands of people. Within the first 10 minutes we received almost 500 I-felt-it reports!

When the quake was very shallow at a depth of 3.7 km, it was felt clearly and in parts strongly in an area of ​​15-20 miles around the epicenter, but as light to moderate shaking throughout North Carolina, as well as areas of the surrounding states in the eastern US.

For this area, shakes of this magnitude are very rare. Minor to moderate damage can be expected in areas near the epicenter, such as broken windows, objects falling from planks and so on. According to a submitted report, the quake lasted about 15 seconds.

A light 4.0 tremor at a depth of 7.9 km occurred yesterday, at 21:44 local time, in the Austrian Alps’ Tyrol region. The epicenter was reported between the cities of Landeck and Imst, 56 km west of the capital Innsbruck (pop .: 113,000).

Earthquakes above magnitude 3 are not very common in Austria. Hundreds of people near the epicenter felt the tremor as light to moderate. One user reported “about 3-4 seconds of heavy rattling and a sound like a heavy freight train“.

No damage was reported from the quake.

A light size 4.4. earthquake shook western Greece this morning at 09:11 local time. The epicenter was between the popular holiday island Zakynthos (20 km to the SE) and the Peloponnese and its depth at approx. 10-20 km.

It was widely felt in Zakynthos, especially in coastal areas, as a light to mild shaking that lasted a few seconds. Within the first 20 minutes, more than 100 people reported it to us. No injuries or injuries were reported from the tremor.
