These are the latest updates on Google Maps.
- Community feed within the app: With this new feature, Google Maps users will be able to access the latest reviews, photos and posts added to the map by people who follow them and local experts. It’s like Longing (Stream) – but it will be available directly in the app.
- Communication for maps and search: Verified companies can message customers directly from the app, allow searchers to interact with businesses and ask questions. Messages received from customers will appear in the Business Messages section of the app’s Updates tab.
- Demonstration Insights for Businesses: This business-focused update will map out how well a company is performing based on the number of customer engagements started with maps and search. The system will provide news insights for the performance of businesses and engagement with customers on Google.
- Street view images added by users: Google Maps users will be able to submit a Street View image from their phone. In particular, people can do this by recording a series of connected images when a street or path goes down. Once that footage is recorded and published, Google Images will automatically rotate, position and attach.
It’s been a big year for app updates released in 2005. In September, Google Maps introduced a feature that would allow U.S. No shows traffic lights on many cities.
With Google unveiling new social features this month, Yelp’s competition with Google Maps is stronger than ever. And Yelp is well aware. In March, the company filed its long-standing complaint about Google at a Senate antitrust subcommittee hearing.

The first focus is the company’s decision to make Google Search the default on Android, its mobile operating operating system and the world’s most popular, distributed on its own phones as well as phones made by several other manufacturers.
