Will Forte’s MacGruber TV show for Peacock has a wild premise

Get ready for more testing.

NBCUniversal announced Monday that the greatest action hero of our generation, MacGruber, will be back for an original Peacock TV series. According to a news release, the new series will see Will Forte restart his role for eight half-hour episodes, though it’s not clear when it comes to celery around the butt. Fans can only hope.

Forte debuted in 2007 the MacGruber character in his time Saturday Night Live. MacGyver’s spoof was such a hit that SNL mega-producer Lorne Michaels spun off the character in his own 2010 film, directed by The Lonely Island‘s Jorma Taccone. The film was an office holiday, despite being the greatest comedy of all time. Shake your ass, America!

Plans for a MacGruber 2 have percolated for years, with rumors that Netflix could be an obvious house. With the recent launch of Peacock, it was only logical for NBCUniversal to keep the property and talent at home. Forte, Taccone, and John Solomon (The Last Man on Earth) have signed up to write the series, with Taccone directing all eight episodes. Here is the official starting point:

After more than a decade in prison, America’s ultimate hero and uber patriot MacGruber (Will Forte) has finally been released. His mission: take down a mysterious villain from his past – Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth. With the whole world at the crossroads, MacGruber must race against time to defeat the forces of evil – only to find that evil … can draw in.

With COVID-19 concerns to limit production worldwide, it is unclear when MacGruber may go into production.
