1999 was the year that Nvidia introduced its first GeForce graphics processing unit to the gaming market. It was considered a major development for the sector as it helped to make high-end graphics capabilities affordable for many more people.

Analysts say the debut of next-generation graphics could spark a major upgrade cycle, which should boost growth for Nvidia and other chipmakers Advanced micro-devices.

Rumors are swirling between gamers and industry pundits ahead of Nvidia’s event. With expectations growing among both customers and shareholders, Nvidia will have to discover something special.
