Anushka Asthana Talk to Andrew Jenkinson Dr., Bariatric (Weight Loss) Surgery Consultant. He discusses how his patients ’experiences of weight loss led him to spend years researching metabolism and weight loss. Why is it that most people consume so many calorie foods, only a few become obese?
That said, genes lead you to obesity, but to become obese you need to stimulate your genetics through environmental change. In areas of the world where the population eats local, fresh ingredients, the population does not become obese. But if you change that food supply to processed food, some of that population will become obese.
Jenkinson, who owns clinics in Dubai, says the UAE is a good example. He noted that two generations ago the population used to eat Bedouin. They now have a processed diet and the rate of obesity has increased – 0% of women in the UAE are obese.
Jenkinson believes that by reducing sugar and refined carbohydrates, increasing our omega 3 and 6 levels, and lowering our cortisol (stress hormone) levels instead of cutting carriers, people can lose weight permanently.
