After playing Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, for almost a decade, it’s no surprise that some viewers find it difficult to separate Chris Evans from his Marvel character. We know that the actor is proud of his work within the franchise. But of course there will surely be challenges that will follow. On the one hand, Cap is basically the epitome of perfection and serves as a role model for a younger audience. And recently, Evans admitted that he pressured himself to meet the “impossibly high” standards set by Captain America.

On June 25, Evans spoke to Ant ManPaul Rudd at Variety’s Actors in Actors Serie. In the midst of their conversation, Evans talked about playing Captain America and Steve Rogers in 2011. He described the experience as “intimidating and overwhelming” at first, as viewers had expectations of the beloved and established Marvel character. But still, the actor knew it would be fine.
“They make you feel very comfortable. It feels like a group effort, ”Evans said of working with Marvel. “You know that every decision will be endlessly examined and it is a true picture of competing ideas and the best idea wins. And that’s how they end up with so many good movies. Very quickly, you put aside your fear and lie down a bit and recognize that you are in good hands. “
Meanwhile, Evans acknowledged his influence on children who admire Cap, especially now that social media allows for a deeper connection between fans and actors. He said:
We live in a very different time now. When young, celebrity was far away. Actors were only accessible through their work. Now, you have this other channel where you can offer a little more than you are, which is a tightrope that is difficult to walk. But it’s nice to be able to share a little more, especially playing a character I respect so much and trying to create this link between the work you do and the impact you could have on children.
Evans later added, “It’s nice to interact with the kids, especially when they walk away feeling something the character has already come up with.”

Although Evans hugs the fans that connect him to his Marvel character, there are a few pitfalls that go along with it. Still speaking at Variety’s Actors in Actors In the series, Evans responded if he felt any pressure to portray Captain America and Steve Rogers, also known as the “perfect person,” according to Rudd.
“It’s probably not pressure from the world,” said Evans. “You know, when you spend a lot of time with the character and when you try to find your own parallels with him, you end up, most of the time, falling short of a character like Steve Rogers.”
He continued: “The bar is impossibly high. So in a very personal and intimate way, you feel like a pebble in your shoe that you could be doing more of. You could be trying harder. “
Evans also shared that it was difficult not to assimilate some parts of Cap after playing it for so long.
“If the narrative in your head for 10 years has been trying to think how this character would think, it’s hard not to absorb at least a little bit, and as I said, I will end up feeling bad about yourself,” Evans said. “But I wouldn’t say I feel pressure from the outside. I would say you put pressure on yourself.
