Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has finally been announced. Expanding on previous entries in the series, the title continues to lean to give players more freedom to choose how they want to play. This time you get to create your own character and define some of its attributes. Some levels will be less linear than in previous games and some scenarios even have dialog options. This level of freedom extends to the end of the game, as Activision has confirmed that the choices you make in the game will lead to one of multiple ends.
Dan Vondrak of Raven Software says the team had the idea for multiple ducks at the beginning of development. Deciding that there would be multiple ducks later in the process could lead to some problems, he said. The team enlisted the help of Batman filmmaker David Goyer, who also worked on the original Black Ops, and the story aims to pay homage to the first game and sequel Black Ops 2, which also had multiple endings. These ducks were determined based on a few choices you made throughout the game, allowing characters to live or die and even an appearance by talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.
“When we started making the story, we immediately had multiple ducks in mind. And that really helped. I think if you try to add them later, or if they just do not fit the story you are telling, then you should not have to add them, “said Vondrak. “But we knew right away we wanted to. I absolutely love the idea that we could [have a] little tribute to Black Ops 2 by having these [multiple endings]. “
“I think even if Black Ops 2 did not have it, it would make perfect sense for our game to have it. But I found it great that this game tried to say, here are all these great pieces from the whole Black Ops series that we own, and we can bring that kind of homage to those different pieces, “Vondrak added. “Some stories work well with multiple ducks, and some stories don’t, and this one was built from the ground up with that in mind.”
Activision is talking mainly about the single-player campaign of Cold War. On September 9, Activision will unveil the Cold War multiplayer mode and further detail the integration of Warzone. Details about the fan-favorite Zombies mode will also come at some point in the future. All of Treyarch’s games since World at War have included the mode when it was first offered as a secret to the campaign’s credits.
Black Ops Cold War will be released on November 13 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game will also launch later this year on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X when these consoles arrive. The upgrade will only be free with editions above the standard, costing $ 70 and up.
