As Opening Day approaches, the White Sox will choose additional players to their alternate camp. There are currently 43 players in the MLB summer camp with the South Siders, and they will have to cut that number to 30 by the time the first game comes.

Today’s additions list contains several notable names, including 2020 first-round pick Garrett Crochet, whom the Red Sox selected at No. 13 at the University of Tennessee. Farm manager Chris Getz does not rule out the possibility of Crochet making his MLB debut sometime this year, Bruce Levine of The Score’s 670 tweets.

Getz also spoke about another recent White Sox first-round pick at Zack Burdi, who they took 26 in 2016, saying (via Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times): ‘We hope to build on how the Major League Baseball ended. It is the best we have seen in a long time. Her last two outings were very encouraging. It is a special arm.

Significant injuries have kept tough Burdi from realizing his potential or even reaching the greats since the White Sox recruited him. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2017, barely pitched the following year as a result, and then succumbed to a torn ligament in his kneecap last season. However, Burdi remains a well-regarded relief prospect and may have a chance to influence the Chicago bullpen this season.
