What’s new on Netflix & Top 10s: August 16, 2020

les miserables no on netflix us 16 august

Happy Sunday and welcome to your definitive daily remake of what’s new on Netflix in the US for the week where three new movies are to be covered, plus we’ll see what’s there this week.

If you want to move forward, we have just released our weekly preview which includes highlights like Lucifer season 5 part 1 and some excellent new movies as well.

Les Misérables (2012)

Genre: Drama, history, musical, romance, war
Managing director: Tom Hooper
Cast: Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried
Runtime: 158 min

The most important highlight of today is Les Mis which was released in cinemas eight years ago this year (remember that?).

The very adaptation of singing and dancing of the classic stage musical itself based on the novel includes some top-notch performances for a musical and is widely regarded as one of the best in recent decades.

It managed to snag 3 Oscars and joins Netflix today.

Johnny English (2003)

Genre: Action, adventure, comedy
Managing director: Peter Howitt
Cast: Rowan Atkinson, Tasha de Vasconcelos, Ben Miller, Greg Wise
Runtime: 87 min

While Johnny English is not one of Rowan Atkinson’s best characters, this enjoyable family movie is still a must-see if you’re a fan of the British cabaret.

In a James Bond role, it’s up to Johnny English to save the crown jewels of an evil Frenchman.

Seventh Son (2014)

Genre: Action, adventure, fantasy
Managing director: Sergei Bodrov
Cast: Jeff Bridges, Ben Barnes, Julianne Moore, Alicia Vikander
Runtime: 102 min

The definitive highlight and third addition to Netflix today is Seventh Son who failed to fulfill her reputation when it was released half a decade ago, but can still be a good watch for fans of fantasy as one of the most famous cast members.

Here’s what to expect if you’ve never seen the movie before:

“In the 18th century, apprentice exorcist Tom Ward is the lynchpin in a battle between good and evil when imprisoned witch Mother Malkin escapes.”
