What makes Ramz’s star defenders Aaron Donald and Bear’s Khalil Mack different? Product

Aaron Donald and Khalil Mack topped the NFL defensive world in 2018 at the age of 27.

Donald, the Los Angeles Rams’ star defensive tackle, won his second consecutive NFL Defensive Player of the Year trophy, setting an NFL record for sacking by defensive tackle. His efforts helped the Rams lead to the Super Bowl LIII, where they lost to the New England Patriots.

But as surprising as Donald was, Mack was with him in the defensive hierarchy. Edge Rusher, trading the Chicago Bears of the Ak Cland Riders just before the season, was the first team’s all-pro pick, with 12.5 sacks fast and helped the Bears to their first playoff berth in eight seasons.

But, the two meet at Sophie Phi Stadium in Inglewood, California on Monday night, they don’t sit 1-2 over the NFL’s defensive line. After 12.5 sacks last year and a fifth straight All-Pro pick, Donald has already bounced 7.5 sacks this season and looks set to be the favorite for a third DPOY in four seasons (he also won in 2017). Mack, though still a pro pro bowler, was not a -l-pro last year and his position as Donald’s main DPOY competition has been threatened.

Three months apart in age, is there a big difference in production? We call on Bear reporter Jeff Dickerson and Rams reporter Lindsay Thiri to break down the defensive stars.

In 2018, both had monster asons Tuo. Since then their paths have been somewhat diverted. What’s right for Donald and what’s wrong for Mac?

Dickerson: There is nothing “wrong” with Mac. Rather, Mack is a victim of his own success. Most players will be thrilled to complete the season with t 47 tackles, .5..5 sacks and five forced statues – the number of mac in 2019 – but mac increased astronomically high years ago. He failed to dominate the way he did in 2018 last season; Week 1 was the first year of Mac in Chicago before that by the Raiders. Good news for the Bears – and bad news for the rest of the NFL – it’s back to Mac. He already has 4.5 sacks in the league’s best defense. McKinnon terrorized Talk Bradd in Week 5 and the hip-hops also hit Tampa’s opening right for good action. Good luck, Jared Goff.

Theory: Ask any teammate, coach or even an opponent, and they will tell you that Donald’s effort on every play, whether it be practice or a game. It doesn’t take a play, and it doesn’t take a day off (even after a Super Bowl appearance, Donald rested just a few days before he got back to his boring workouts). “He’s never happy,” says Rams coach Sean McVeigh. “When you look at consistency and attention to detail, because of the focus and concentration that he does on everything he does, because he sees the way he works and gives you the opportunity to improve himself, It’s good to be here. ” Due to his incredible dedication and hard work, Donald continues to find new ways to do his job.

What kind of defensive plan of each type develops the most? Provide an example of their best game since 2018?

Dickerson: The Mac is a pure, 3-4- 3-4 linebacker. He is so agile that he sometimes touches the ground, but he is most dangerous with a two-point attitude. Mack showed the entire NFL – if he didn’t already know – how multifaceted it is when he started the Packers vs. Pears in Week 1 of the 2018 season. M 198 became the first player since 1982 to record a sack, a forced, unstable recovery recovery, a hurdle and a touchdown in half.

Theory: Donald spent three seasons playing defense -3- defense, then when Rams’ defensive coordinator Wade Phillips arrived, 3-4- in 2017. Turned on. New defensive coordinator Brandon Staley kept his base at 3-4 after being hired this season. Donald has prospered regardless of the plan, but there’s a stimulus to how often Donald puts the line in different places this season. “In some situations, we definitely have to make sure it’s not a static target and in the same place,” McWay says. “The type of game makes it a lot easier to organize its huge size player when you know where it’s going to be.” So Rams and Donald have tried to guess opponents. Within a week of the Football Washington team’s victory over Donald Trump, Donald erupted for the season-high four sacks. “I was the only one blocked,” Donald said.

How is the team game planned for Donald? For Mac?

Dickerson: Carefully. Block Mac with one person at your own risk. And if you make a Mac double-team, it frees up space for defensive tackle Akim Hicks and pass-runner Robert Quinn, who played about 30-35 pics per game. Basically, the Bears are really, really hard on defense when Mack is at his best. You better chip the hack off the mac and get rid of the ball quickly. Otherwise, it could be disgusting for the opposing quarterback.

Theory: Last Sunday, 49 people provided a blueprint when they beat the Rams 24-16. Donald didn’t have a sack and he hit just one quarterback on Jimmy Garoppolo. “It was a lot of perimeter type stuff, where you see a lot of flip play of that kind … a lot of toss actions,” McWay said. “A lot of the concepts and different things that they were activating to minimize the impact on you as an internal player, where they really extend your edge to your second and third levels.” Watch other teams try to emulate what the Niners accomplished; However, Donald probably spent weeks trying to figure out how to beat that plan.

What is the heel of Achilles in their respective games?

Dickerson: Supporting cast. The bear suffered several tons of injuries last year, which contributed to Mack’s decline. Without Hicks (2019 more elbow injury) or on the other hand continuous pass-rusher (former first round pick Leonard Floyd) teams focused almost all their attention on stopping Mack. In six weeks, the bears suffered the only serious loss in defense to AD A Goldam, Nino, who opted for summer due to Covid-19 related concerns. Mac is especially dangerous when the rest of the defense is healthy.

Theory: Personally, Donald does not have the Achilles heel. It is prevalent in every fashion. The only point, like McKinney’s, is that opponents may be whipping Donald this season due to a lack of strong pass-rushers coming from the edge. Fly yid, whose bears were released during the .fison, have maintained a constant presence and have two bags. However, the situation against Floyd has remained in the stream as the Rams have turned many players into trying to establish a more consistent pass.

How will it affect every Monday night game?

Dickerson: The Mac is a force that Los Angeles has to keep its key to. Unfortunately for the Rams, the Hicks have also been a monster year and the boundaries at that time are also unobstructed. Safety Eddie Jackson is an opportunistic playmaker. Kornbuck Kyle Fuller is a former pro bowler. Gippson already has two interruptions. Roquan Smith is Chicago’s leading tackler. The defense shuts down the attention paid to him, which affects the game not only by his game but also by his presence.

Theory: The Bears have to account for Donald every instant. Even when facing a double-team on his 70.1% pass this season, Donald has a league-high 7.5 sack. And the worst news for the Bears is that Donald is giving a down performance against the 49ers which will inspire him to go to quarterback Nick Falls. Donald, after weeks 5 and 6 of 2019, has not played two games in a row without a bag. To force the Falls to throw in some mistaken throws, see if the Rams, led by Cornbach Jalen Ramsay, are ready to make secondary earnings.

Bear will win if Mac … / If Donald MS wins Donald …

Dickerson: … play the way he is able to play. About once or twice Goff needs to be fired and the bear needs a mac and is killed five to six times. Bears will have to rely on their defense to win. Maybe Mack could even get into the crime. It will also be helpful.

Theory: … makes the falls uncomfortable. False sacks have been found in Rams’ defense – see Eight Sacks v. Washington Washington. So if Donald Ensive can lead the way against an offensive line with a 57..3% (NFL’s 16th) pass block win rate, it could be a long night on the offense for Falls and other playmakers, at least statistically. Ranked in the league’s lowest producer.
