As the music says, Tina Turner didn’t even want to record “What’s Love Got To Do With It”. The music icon didn’t like the track and only did so after her manager convinced her to do so. The 1984 song, of course, became an all-time classic, and to this day it remains the only Turner solo song to reach number 1 on the Hot 100 in the US.
Today (July 17), the dance world extends a particular fist of gratitude to Turner, with the release of Kygo’s edition “What’s Love Got To Do With It”. The Norwegian producer reduces the beginning of the song to a simple beat and Turner’s vocals before adding drums and then blowing up the ceiling with piano punctures and a synth wall and Tina asking for the song’s title existential query. Is this remix the summer dance song? Possibly.
Directed by Sarah Bahbah, the corresponding video tracks the dissolution of a romance, following a couple in love as anxiety, jealousy, and distance separate them before the heroine regains her power through song and a large bottle of champagne. . Check out the clip below.
“What’s Love Got To Do With It” is another victory for Kygo, who is already having a great summer after the release of his second album, Golden hour. The LP is currently at number 1 on the Top Dance / Electronic album chart. Today Kygo and album collaborator Ryan Tedder will also present a socially distant version of Golden hour track “Lose Somebody” as part of iHeartRadio’s Summer camp with stars Serie.
