Washington Nationals, Philadelphia Phillies put out last night’s game in the wake of protests

The Washington Nationals game against the Philadelphia Phillies Thursday night was postponed in the wake of boycotts protesting police violence across the spectrum of professional sports.

“This is a fraternity,” Nationals manager Davey Martinez said in a Zoom call with media. “Things need to change. There is ugliness in this world.”

He said he supported Phillies’ decision not to play today.

Although they have meanwhile agreed to the playoffs, all NBA games in Orlando were canceled after the Milwaukee Bucks refused to play in protest of Jacob Blake’s shooting in Kenosha, Wisc.

The boycotts triggered other cancellations, including WNBA games and NFL practices.
