Walt Disney World begins testing facial recognition technology

Orlando, Fla. – Walt Disney World is now testing new face recognition technology at its Magic Kingdom theme park.

The new technology captures the image of the guest’s face and converts it into a unique number, which is then associated with the form of entry used for entering the park. Disney said on its website that testing is completely optional and limited, as guests with reservations go through a turnstile at the park.

“At Wilt’s Disney World Resort, we’re always looking for innovative and convenient ways to improve our guests’ experience – especially as we navigate the effects of the Covid-19,” the leaders said on their website. “With a view to the future and a focus on more touchless experiences, we are conducting a 30-day limited test using facial recognition technology.”

Officials stressed that the security, integrity and confidentiality of guests’ information is extremely important. Disney said all information and photos taken during the test will be discarded after 30 days when the test is completed.
