“I think they have always had a very cautious image, to be honest,” he said of the couple. “You know, Will Smith is a megastar … I think they’ve always been like, ‘We’re happy, we’re fine,’ Will and Jada love. ‘Well guess what? That’ Will and Jada love ‘also ran into a small obstacle ”.
If anything, Fox believes her conversation was evidence of growth and could act as a healthy role model for conflict resolution in relationships, something she points out is often lacking for African Americans in particular.
“That’s adult people right there. Relationships are difficult, “she said. “The fact that they were very transparent with their relationship and, I guess you could say, a bad time in their relationship, that they shared that with us … it worked.”
“I think others can learn,” he added, “that if you have problems in your relationships don’t be afraid to talk about it.” And if they really love each other, they will get over it. ”
As Will and Jada hold a special place in Fox’s heart, he is careful to note that their friendship is part of a larger pattern: the generous and welcoming nature of African-American actors in Hollywood.
“I am so grateful that most of all the people I have had the opportunity to work with, I am still friends and we are still hiring each other, doing projects together,” she shared. “I can honestly say that the African American actor community is very, very close.”
But producing gives Fox more voice than ever, and she was always certain that Lifetime was where she wanted to launch her brand.
“We are in more powerful positions writing, directing, producing, and telling our own stories,” Fox says of African American creators today. “And that’s why now you can even see them numbered even more beautifully and accurately. Because African Americans will make sure they tell black stories accurately. “
