Yuan Zhiming, deputy director of the Wuhan Institute of Virology, announced April 18 on Chinese state television CGTN That, accusing the Wuhan Institute of Virology as the location of the corvid virus causing the Covid-19 pandemic as a “conspiracy theory” to “confuse” public opinion.

Previously, Chinese scientists said the new strain of the corona virus could have been transmitted from animals to humans at the Wuhan Wildlife Market. However, the existence of a laboratory has sparked a conspiracy theory that pathogens may have emerged from this facility.

This is the first time that an official from the Wuhan Institute of Virology has spoken publicly on the subject. Mr. Yuan is a specialist in biotechnology and microbiology, having had time to train and work in France, Denmark and the United States.

“As people doing virus studies, we know what kind of research should be done at the institute, as well as how the institute handles viruses and samples. As we said from the beginning, there was never a virus coming from us, “Yuan said.

“We have strict investigation rules and management mechanisms, so we are very confident,” added Yuan.

Yuan also said that no staff member of the Wuhan Virology Institute had Covid-19, and said that “the entire institute is conducting research in various areas related to the new strain of the coronavirus.”

According to Yuan, he understands why some people think the Wuhan Institute of Virology lab is related to Covid-19 because the facility is located in Wuhan City, China, where the outbreak originated.

Previously, the previous article Washington Post and Fox News they both cited unidentified sources expressing concern that the new strain of the coronavirus has accidentally escaped from the Wuhan Virus Institute. US Senator Tom Cotton also suspected Covid-19 from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Yuan said the information was “purely based on speculation” without “evidence or knowledge.”

“Part of its purpose is to confuse public opinion, interfere with our anti-epidemic activities or even with our scientific activities. They may have achieved their goals in some way, but as a scientist and science and technology manager, I was involved in biosafety management in the lab and management. Scientific research projects for a long time, so I know it’s impossible. I also believe that as long as the disease continues, especially in other countries, those doubts still exist, “Yuan said.

Yuan also denied information that Covid-19 was man-made.

In fact, there have been many reports in academic journals. But based on my personal understanding of virology, there is currently no evidence that Covid-19 has man-made traces. Some scientists believe that creating a virus requires a great deal of intelligence and workload. Therefore, I never believed that humans could afford to create such a virus at this time, “added Mr. Yuan.

In February, the Wuhan Virological Institute once denied the theory of the origin of Covid-19, confirming that the facility had shared information about the new strain of the coronavirus with the World Health Organization (WHO) in early January.

However, this week, US officials have mentioned the problem again. Both Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and President Donald Trump have said the United States is conducting an investigation into the origin of Covid-19 and how the virus spread around the world.

On April 17, Secretary of State Pompeo also asked the Chinese side for US experts to access the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Pompeo said the purpose of the approach was to identify the exact origin of Covid-19.
