HCMCDong Xuan Quynh, 32, claimed to be the housekeeper at Ms. Nga’s new home. Knowing that the owner had just sold the old house “he still has a few billion dong in it,” so he planned to steal.
On the evening of October 29, Quynh (from Thai Nguyen) admitted to killing 66-year-old Ms. Nga in a four-story house in Nguyen Dinh Chieu alley two days ago. Ms. Nga and her two daughters moved into the house about 3 months ago.
Quynh claims to be an inside worker at Ms. Nga’s home. In the course of the work, he briefly overheard this lady talking to other people who “still has many billions of dong” from the sale of the old house, so the intent to steal came up.
On the afternoon of October 27, when her husband and two children were not home, Quynh came to work and walked the floors to find out where the owner kept the money. Ms. Nga seemed suspicious, always following him. On the second floor, when this lady did not realize it, she pulled out a knife to stab, strangling the victim to death.
Quynh continued rummaging but couldn’t get anything. He set Ms. Nga’s house on fire to prevent the duel, then took a scooter downstairs, locked the victim’s door and fled.
Seeing fire and smoke coming from the floor of Ms. Nga’s house, people chanted and tried to put out the fire but could not access. When the police broke into the entrance, Ms. Nga’s body was burned.
Extracting many security cameras around the area and the roads, the police discovered Quynh riding a motorcycle that was taken from the Russian family. He was arrested while hiding in the Go Vap district.
