Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh will chair the 53rd ASEAN Meeting of Foreign Ministers (AMM 53) and related meetings from 9-12 September.
The conferences will be attended by Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the ASEAN countries, partners (China, Japan, Korea, USA, Russia, EU, India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada …) and the Secretary General of the ASEAN. .
At the press conference before AMM 53 on the afternoon of September 7, Vice Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung, head of SOM ASEAN Vietnam, shared about the organization and coordinating role of Vietnam this year.
Due to the effects of COVID-19, AMM 53 and related conferences this year must be held online. Vietnam as president will be responsible from logistics to content, especially technical coordination.
Therefore, senior officials from ASEAN countries and 27 partners will attend the entire meeting online, with the exception of North Korea.
Sharing the meeting format, Vice Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung said that the North Korean side will not have a representative for the online meeting. Instead, Vietnam will directly invite North Korean representatives at the Korean Embassy in Hanoi to attend.
