With a hat-trick of assists, Reyna made history in Dortmund

Giovanni Reyna made an impressive performance in Freiburg yesterday. He was the first to help the first 3 goals, 2 of which were scored by Erling Haaland. The Norwegian forward took Reyna’s place and opened the scoring in the 31st minute. Reyna then assisted Emre Can from the corner just before half-time.

In the 66th minute, Haaland had completed a double from another of Reyna’s sharp cuts. The 17-year-old was given a break with 10 minutes remaining before Passlack set the score in extra time.

With this performance, Reyna became the first American player to score 3 assists in 1 game among the 5 best leagues in Europe. The closest player to doing this is Steve Cherundolo in the Hannover jersey in March 2008.

Reyna’s brilliance helped Dortmund rebound from a shocking 2-0 loss to Augsburg. In the middle of the week, Dortmund also lost 2-3 to Bayern in the German Super Cup match.

Before Freiburg, Dortmund did not have the service of Jadon Sancho and Roman Burki due to a respiratory infection. Both players did not recover in time to play the last game.

Dortmund will play again on October 17, after the team meetings. His next rival will be Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.
