The Director General of the General Highway Department said that after two years of investigating the Thang Long Bridge repair plan based on the absorption of technology from many countries, the General Department gave a final repair plan and it was approved by the Ministry of Transport. The total investment of the Thang Long Bridge repair project is almost VND 270 billion. Currently, the project is in the bidding process, at the end of June, the tender option ends and construction begins on July 1. The project is expected to complete by the end of the 4/2020 quarter.
It should be added that the Thang Long Bridge Repair Project was revised in 2009; The 2012-2013 period was also repaired, repairing asphalt concrete damaged by American technology, but many locations also suffered damage before the warranty expired. From 2016 to present, the road management unit has also carried out local repairs.
In 2019, the Vietnam Highway Administration contacted a Russian expert who directly built the Thang Long Bridge in the past, sent research papers from KEI Consulting, and invited Vietnam to conduct field surveys and trade exchanges. It is worth mentioning that the Russian team of experts and the Thang Long Bridge construction unit left Vietnam without giving any information on the results of the 35-year-old bridge repair project built by himself.

According to Mr. Huyen, to clarify the information from the delegation of Russian experts, the Ministry of Transport sent a document through trade, then the Russian Ministry of Economic Development and Development responded to the Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
“The partner is not interested in the Thang Long Bridge repair project and has excluded their priority projects. Therefore, the repair project has no longer been studied, ”said Mr. Huyen.
Regarding the repair of the Thang Long Bridge this time, Mr. Huyen said: The surface of the bridge will be repaired with steel plates with super light composite structure. The construction unit will scrape the existing asphalt surface, cleaning the steel plate.
The construction unit will weld steel anchors to the steel slab, install the wire mesh, and pour a layer of high-strength concrete. After that, an asphalt concrete liner will be built to ensure smoothness during the mining process. At the same time, the expansion joints on the damaged sphere will be completely replaced.
“This is not a large-scale project and construction time, but a failed technology and repair measures project last time. The objective this time is to select contractors with technological measures appropriate to the conditions in Vietnam. There are many options for using the dial, each with different characteristics and advantages, ”said the director of the General Department of Highways.
According to the leader of the General Highway Department, this agency has consulted many experts and will deploy the repair of the Thang Long Bridge with the following criteria: Use national capital, comply with standards and have a construction contractor.
