Bloomberg was the first news agency to report that Meadows tested positive for the corona virus. Then CNN and the Reuters news agency on November 6 also cite sources with knowledge to confirm.
It is unclear when or how Mr. Meadows contracted COVID-19. However, Mr. Meadows regularly appears at public events without wearing a mask.
Chief of Staff Meadows also accompanied President Donald Trump in the final campaign days before the 3-11 elections. He also appeared at the White House at the Election Night 3-11 party and was in close contact with members of the Trump family.
A CNN source said White House officials were now wary that Meadows was also around other staff members on the night of November 3 while the possibility of infection existed. At the time, White House communications director Alyssa Farah announced that there were epidemic prevention measures in place, such as body temperature control.
The original plan for the 3-11 night party was to hold an event at the Trump Hotel, but he was forced to cancel it due to regulations prohibiting crowds of people in the house, as well as fears of fines for violations.
Meadows is the latest member of the White House to contract COVID-19, after Trump and his wife Melania Trump and their son Barron contracted the corona virus. Many advisers close to Trump are also ill, including national security adviser Robert O’Brien.
In related developments, the number of new daily COVID-19 cases in the US rose to at least 129,600 on November 6. This is the third day in a row that the United States has seen the number of new cases increase daily by more than 100,000 cases, according to Reuters.
The Midwest remains the hardest hit region, with 20 of the 50 US states registering a record number of infections on November 6. Illinois saw more than 10,000 new infections for the first time. Record new cases were also reported in Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
Several cities and states have imposed curfews or crowd restrictions to stop the spread of the corona virus. However, the United States does not take any federal action. Reuters said 17 states in the country do not require people to wear masks.
