That was the situation on Vo Van Ngan, Ho Van Tu, Kha Van Can, To Ngoc Van streets, the main streets of this district. On the morning of October 8, the Thu Duc District People’s Committee began construction of the drainage system on Vo Van Ngan Street. People eagerly wait for the water to flow “like a waterfall” through these paths.

Vo Van Ngan street has a steep slope, every 30 minutes it rains, the water flows like a waterfall. The current drainage system is overloaded and cannot be removed in time. Many weak drivers were knocked over by the water and their cars were washed up on the road.

People living around Vo Van Ngan and Ho Van Tu streets for many years obsessed every heavy rain. The water from Vo Van Ngan street combined with the local water could not drain in time, causing the water to rise more than half a meter. The water flooded the market stalls, trading was very difficult.

At To Ngoc Van Street (the intersection with the North-South Railroad), each rain floods to a meter deep, engulfing the median strip between the highway. There are days of heavy rain, the water washed away the rocks and the embankment tracks, many trains had to stop, wait for the water to recede and fix the problem.

In 2017, an underground regulating lake was built in the Children’s House area of the Thu Duc district. However, this lake does not contain all the rainfall, the Vo Van Ngan route is still flooded, the heaviest being the section from Dang Van Bi street to Thu Duc market. The water intake system on the road has been replaced but still cannot stop the floods.

With this project, the entire old sewer system will be replaced by the sewer system. The size of the box is many times larger on the 2.5 km stretch of Vo Van Ngan Street, from the intersection with the Hanoi Highway to the Ngang Bridge canal. The cost of the project is 129.4 billion dong and it is expected to be completed in 17 months. This completed work will allow the drainage of 90 hectares around it.

According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Anh Tu, Vice Chairman of the Thu Duc District People’s Committee, the district has dredged and renovated the Cau Ngang canal at the source. The project to renovate the Cau Ngang canal from 2014 to now has been completed, ready to connect to increase drainage efficiency.

Car falling like “food”

Speaking about the flood situation, Ms. Tu Phuong Tam, a resident of Vo Van Ngan Street, said that whenever it rained heavily, the water from the alleys got too much on this road, she could not escape in time, the water it flowed very fast, people fell. fell, people looked helplessly at the motorcycle and their belongings were dragged hundreds of meters. Outside, the streets rolled like waves, when big cars passed, the water flooded people’s houses.

And Ms. Ho Thi Nhi (66 years old) said that she lived on this road for more than 40 years. This road was “old” flooded, many times raised the road surface and improved the system, but not yet completely flooded. People riding motorcycles and bicycles fall down as “meals”, many students are run over by water, people are wet and torn and have to stop at people’s houses to get other clothes. People hope that these scenes do not happen again in the future.

* Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong (Secretary of the Thu Duc District Party Committee):

Ending “flooded navel”

The Sewer System Replacement Project on Vo Van Ngan Street is a welcome job to the Ho Chi Minh City Party Congress. In addition to this project, the district will continue to renovate and dredge the drainage system along the train tracks from the Linh Tay district to To Ngoc Van Street, carrying water from Pham Van Dong Street to the end of the drainage in the Cau Ngang channel. On Kha Van Can Road, from the Thu Duc District Medical Center to the Thu Duc Market, there is also a project to improve the drainage system invested by the city. Another drainage project that is about to be renovated in the district is the Binh Thai canal. The district will soon finish flooding points in the area.

* Mr. Nguyen Huu Anh Tu (Vice Chairman of the Thu Duc District People’s Committee):

Commitment on time

The existing drainage culvert are reinforced concrete circular culverts with a diameter of 600-800 mm, which do not meet the drainage requirements. The new sewer system will be box sewers with dimensions of 1,600 x 1,600 mm, 1,600 x 2,000 mm.

I promise to pay attention, urge and guide the investor to coordinate with the construction contractor and related units to execute and deliver the project on time.
