Circular No. 06 regulates that the citizenship card (CCCD) has a rectangle, width 53.98 mm ± 0.12 mm, length 85.6 mm ± 0.12 mm, thickness 0.76 mm ± 0.08 mm, the four corners are cut rounded with radius r = 3.18 mm ± 0.3 mm. The cards are manufactured with material approved by the Ministry of Public Security.

The back of the CCCD card contains information đIdentification characteristics, date, month, year … in Vietnamese and English.
According to the Ministry of Public Security, electronic chips are mounted on the back of the CCCD card, storing basic information about citizens.
Furthermore, CCCD cards issued before the effective date of Circular No. 06 remain valid until their expiration as prescribed. At the request of citizens, they can change to CCCD cards in accordance with the provisions of Circular No. 06.
Legal documents issued using information from the CCCD card issued prior to the effective date of Circular No. 06 remain legally valid.
Previously, the Ministry of Public Security issued a request from January 22, the central provinces and cities police stopped receiving requests for CCCD barcode card, 9-digit identification card to switch to the issuance of CCCD cards.
The Ministry of Public Security aims to provide 50 million chip-mounted CCCD cards from now until July 1, 2021.
