President-elect Joe Biden is making the mistake of underestimating current US President Donald Trump’s attempts to challenge the election results, writes an editorial published on CNN.
So far, Biden has avoided direct attacks on Trump.
According to CNN, Biden was correct in believing that Trump’s attempts to reverse the election results will fail. So far, courts in most states have dismissed Trump’s lawsuits.
But Biden is wrong to think that Trump’s litigation efforts are the norm any retired president could make, CNN wrote.
By not accepting the final election results, Trump not only damaged Biden’s reputation, but also the future of America, according to CNN.
On January 20, Biden is likely to be sworn in, whether Trump accepts it or not. But history can tell that Biden was one of the most controversial American presidents elected.
Most Americans believe that Biden actually won, that this year’s elections are safe, with no signs of interference. But it is undeniable that Trump received broad support from the voters and Republican votes.
Statistics published in Reuters recently showed that more than half of Republicans believe that Biden won by “fraud.” Up to 52% of the Republicans who participated in the poll said that the president of the United States had “rightly won”, while the figure of the Democratic candidate Biden represented only 29%.
Trump is also the second candidate in US history, after Biden, to garner more than 70 million votes. Most Trump supporters believe that “there is fraud in this year’s election.”
CNN expressed concern that a significant segment of Americans still believed that Biden came to power in an unorthodox way. CNN believes that Biden is wrong in not publicly challenging Trump’s claims, by not suing the Trump administration.
In recent days, Biden has begun to speak more about Trump’s actions, saying that “Trump may be the most irresponsible American president in history.”
But that’s not enough, according to CNN. Biden needs to assure the American public that this year’s elections are completely clean, and that he rebels Trump’s arguments.
