On December 21, this person from the United States transited through Korea, returned to Vietnam on flight VN415, entered Noi Bai airport. After that, the patient was immediately quarantined and sampled in Hanoi.

Results from the first test on December 23 found that the patient was positive for SAR-CoV-2. Currently, the patient is isolated and treated at Dong Anh Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases.

As of 6 p.m. on December 23, Vietnam had registered 1,421 people infected with Covid-19, of which 693 cases were caused by domestic infections.

The number of people treated for Covid-19 by health centers throughout the country is 1,281 cases. In the cases that have not recovered, 4 patients tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 three times in a row, 10 were negative for the second time, and 6 were negative for the first time. The number of patients dying from Covid-19 remains at 35 cases.

Regarding the quarantine situation, the total number of people in close contact and entering from the epidemic area under medical supervision is 16,341 people. In which, there are 187 isolators in the hospital, 15,038 isolators are assembled in another facility and 1,116 are isolated in the home and residence.

Speaking at the Covid-19 epidemic prevention online conference this morning, Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long reported that epidemics in the world remain complicated, with 500,000 – 600,000 new cases registered every day. Therefore, Vietnam needs to strengthen more prevention activities.

“In the first place, it is necessary to strengthen supervision in health facilities. This season there are many diseases that spread through the respiratory tract, such as influenza with symptoms very similar to Covid-19, so the Ministry demands that all these cases be examined, ”said the Minister.

The Minister of Health also requested that from now until the end of the year, localities must maintain the level of prevention of the Covid-19 epidemic at the highest level, preparing for all the worst situations. At the same time, continue to strengthen the strict management of the people who enter (illegal, legal).

With the cases of legal entry, the Minister of Health proposed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to limit return flights from epidemic areas, especially from countries where the new variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus is present.
