“We are quite confident in the safety of the COVID-19 vaccine produced by the Nanogen Pharmaceutical Technology Joint Stock Company (HCMC) when we investigate in animals.

However, to confirm that the safety reaches 100%, it is necessary to wait for the results of clinical research in humans. This information was provided by Mr. Tran The Vinh, technical assistant to the CEO of Nanogen Pharmaceutical Technology Joint Stock Company, at a press meeting on the morning of December 8.

Prepare for the massive injection for people

The COVID-19 vaccine against COVID-19 manufactured by Nanogen is called Nanocovac. This vaccine was tested by Nanogen in mice, hamsters, and monkeys.

The results showed that the vaccine was safe and had a good immune response. Nanogen also experimented with hamsters by infecting them with the SARS-CoV-2 virus for 14 days and then vaccinating them with the Nanocovac vaccine.

The results were very positive, the hamster lung fluid tested negative for SARS-CoV-2. While other hamsters were also infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus but did not vaccinate with Nanocovac, they tested positive and showed signs of fatigue.

“The above results are compelling evidence that the Nanogen Nanocovac vaccine is selected for human clinical trials,” said Vinh.

According to the plan, on December 10, at the Military Medical Academy (Hanoi), the Nanocovac vaccine will be tested for 40 volunteers (volunteers) in phase 1.

These volunteers were between 18 and 50 years old, healthy, and had passed some initial tests. After the injection, the volunteers will be monitored for toxicity for a month.

When safety results are available, Nanogen performs a trial injection of phase 2 of the Nanocovac vaccine with a number of volunteers of around 400. Within 1.5 months, volunteers will be monitored for response results. of antibodies. If successful, Nanogen continues to test the Phase 3 Nanocovac vaccine with more volunteers.

“The age of volunteers in stages 2 and 3 ranges from 12 to 70. Because the Nanocovac vaccine is in the process of testing, it is not possible to choose young or old volunteers because it can cause many side effects and undesirable photos. vaccine results.

Once the results of the phase 3 trial achieved high safety efficiency, Nanogen applied to the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Health for permission to use the Nanocovac vaccine for mass use in the second quarter of 2021, “added Vinh.

Independent research and production

Nanogen independently researched and produced the Nanocovac line of vaccines, with references to country documents published in prestigious journals from the first day of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Health insurance list

When putting the Nanocovac vaccine into use, each person must inject two doses 28 days apart. The vaccine has an immunological effect for one year. Therefore, it must be repeated every year.

“The mouse trial showed that the Nanocovac vaccine had minor side effects, mainly itching at the injection site, and it only lasted about 30 minutes. The rats continue to gain weight and eat normally, with no symptoms of toxicity. Even after an injection prolonged duration of the Nanocovac vaccine, the rat anatomy did not show damage to internal organs. Therefore, it can be said that the toxicity of the vaccine is very safe, “shared Mr. Vinh.

Basically, the Nanocovac vaccine is not contraindicated for anyone. However, due to the emergency situation, the above-mentioned vaccine has only been tested in people between the ages of 12 and 70 because this is the age group most susceptible to COVID-19.

“Therefore, children under the age of 12 and the elderly over the age of 70 can use a product that is both a vaccine and a nasal spray and eye drops to prevent COVID-19. This product is also produced by Nanogen ”- said Mr. Vinh.

“Currently, Nanogen can produce two million doses of the Nanocovac vaccine / year. In the period of clinical trials and updates, the capacity increased to 30 million doses / year. The ideal capacity is 50 million doses / year. It is important that we try to include the Nanocovac vaccine on the health insurance list so that all people, rich or poor, have the opportunity to access it, ”said Vinh.

The price does not exceed 500,000 VND / dose

The Nanocovac vaccine serves primarily the community, again a product ordered by the Ministry of Health to respond to a national emergency. Therefore, the price will be negotiated by Nanogen with the Ministry of Health to be reasonable. As expected, the price of the Nanocovac vaccine per dose should not exceed 500,000 VND.
