On the morning of January 2, the Ministry of Health announced “patient 1435” infected with the nCoV VOC 202012/01 strain, a new mutation that was registered in the UK and is spreading around the world.
The nCoV strain that infected this patient also carries the D614G mutation, which spread rapidly 4-5 months ago, according to the Ministry of Health. Thus, this patient infected up to two mutations with nCoV.
This is the first time that Vietnam has registered a new case of a new CoV strain from the UK. Last week, Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long, during a meeting of the National Steering Committee against the Covid-19 epidemic, announced that Vietnam had sequenced the entire nCoV sample in the country and the region, then no strain was detected. UK nCoV variable.
The newest strain of CoV that was reported in the UK is variant B.1.1.7. The reported mutant CoV strain had multiple variants, at least 23 confirmed.
“Patient 1435”, female, born in 1976, Tra Vinh’s hometown, returned from England to Vietnam on December 22, 2020 on flight VN50, entered Can Tho airport, concentrated in isolation in Tra Vinh. On the same flight, there were 305 passengers, of which 147 isolated people gathered in Tra Vinh province, 137 isolators gathered in Vinh Long, 17 isolated people in Can Tho city and 4 isolated people in Ho city Chi Minh.
The localities have taken samples, analyzed once for 6 cases, including patients 1429 to 1432 (isolated in Vinh Long), patients 1434 and 1435 (isolated in Tra Vinh). Soon after, the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City evaluated, classified and sequenced the genes. The results recorded “patient 1435” infected with marine strains of nCoV – variant VOC 202012/01.
This patient has had a history of hypertension for 10 years, he is in good treatment. Before returning to Vietnam, this person’s health was stable. After being admitted and isolated for a day, she presented symptoms of a sore throat, low fever, and on December 24 samples were taken and transferred to the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City to confirm positive.
Currently, the patient is being treated at Tra Vinh Hospital for Tuberculosis and Lung Disease with a diagnosis of acute tonsillitis. Clinical symptoms gradually decreased from December 24 to 30. On December 31, the patient had a mild cough, no sore throat, no fever, no shortness of breath, and an X-ray had a mild basal lung injury. The patient was monitored for pneumonia.
The patient’s husband is in the UK, he was tested and also positive for nCoV.
The new nCoV strain was discovered in early September, in Kent, south-east England. The new strain caused a quarter of the cases in London in November, two-thirds of all cases in December. According to the scientists, the new variant of nCoV is capable of transmitting 70% faster than previous strains have no basis to show greater virulence.
Currently, many countries have recorded the appearance of the superinfectious mutant CoV strain. More than 50 countries have blocked travel from England to prevent infections.
In Vietnam, the epidemic from late July to September involved Da Nang, health officials also analyzed the gene to identify that this strain of nCoV is also mutated and causes more rapid infection than previous nCoV strains. However, there is no indication that this new strain is more virulent than previous strains.
The nCoV strain associated with the Da Nang epidemic was not a UK metastatic strain.
