On the morning of 5/13, VFF members finalized the plan to host V-League 2020 after the Covid-19 epidemic was brought under control in Vietnam.
After the VFF Executive Board meeting this morning 5/13, 14 of the 15 delegates who attended the Conference agreed on the plan to organize the V-League in a new way to shorten tournament time.
V-League 2020 will take place in a new format to shorten time |
Specifically, clubs will compete from the third round to the end of the first leg (round 13) according to the first leg schedule issued with a total of 77 matches / 11 rounds. After the 13th round, points will be calculated for the clubs to be classified into the two groups competing for the championship and the group competing for relegation.
The top 8 teams will continue to compete in a circle with each other to choose the champions. There will be 7 rounds held. The last 6 teams will compete in a circle to find the relegation team. These teams will play a total of 5 rounds.
The ways of classifying teams based on scores, total goals / losses, face-to-face difference remain the same. This year’s V-League is known to maintain a relegation team, rather than 1.5 as before. The estimated time of the V-League 2020 continues: from June 5 to October 25, 2020.
This format will also take place in the National First Division with 12 participating clubs. Teams will play the first round (11 rounds) to select 6 teams to compete for the championship and promotion. The remaining 6 teams face each other to find relegation teams. These two groups will compete for another 5 rounds. The time for first place is expected on June 6 and ends on September 26, 2020.
Thus, the First Division will end after 17 rounds, shortening 5 rounds compared to the previous one. Meanwhile, V-League will end 6 rounds before the previous schedule. This is expected to give the national team more time to prepare for the biggest tournaments by the end of the year.
