US Senate rejected Trump’s veto on defense spending bill

According to the AFP news agency, with an 81/13 affirmative vote, more than the two-thirds majority required for 100 seats in the Senate, the legislature currently controlled by the Republican Party passed the Commission Act. Defense rights with a budget of $ 740.5 billion spent on the military in fiscal year 2021.

Previously, on December 28, the House of Representatives (controlled by the Democrats) also voted to reject Trump’s veto with the agreement 322/87.

Before that, both houses of the United States Congress easily passed this bill in early December with a large majority of votes. However, Trump used the president’s veto to not sign the bill on December 23.

The result of the vote on the Jan. 1 defense spending bill is another significant failure for President Donald Trump in his final weeks in office.

With opinions conflicting with members of the Republican Party, Trump has criticized many points in the defense spending bill that he has vetoed.

President Trump called it a “gift” to China and Russia, and said the bill limits their right to reduce the number of US troops in Afghanistan, South Korea and elsewhere.

However, members of the Republican Party believe that this bill is very important for national security and for the US military.

Democrats in both houses of Congress have harshly criticized Trump’s veto on the defense spending bill. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, called it “reckless act.”
