The 95% effective vaccine has been approved by the United States and is expected to be administered early next week.
On December 11, the United States authorized the use of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine, marking a major turning point as the pandemic killed more than 295,000 people. A large-scale vaccination is expected in the coming days.
The US Food and Drug Administration said that a vaccine developed by Pfizer with German partner BioNTech (95% effective) will be administered to people over the age of 16.

Healthcare workers and the elderly in long-term care facilities will be the main beneficiaries of the December 2.9 million dose.
According to BioNTech CEO Ugur Sahin, the vaccine will save the lives of many people in the United States and could hasten the return to normal life.
“Today is a truly historic event for all of humanity,” said Moncef Slaoui, an immunologist involved in developing vaccines for the government.
“It has been 11 months since the pandemic virus has devastated lives around the world. Science, industry and government have been working together to develop and produce vaccines in record time. This will be the point.” key to helping us get rid of this disease, “said Mr. Slaoui.
US medical agencies, transportation services, hospitals and pharmacies are poised for a nationwide vaccination drive. Pfizer said it would begin deliveries immediately and that state public health systems planned to start early injections early next week.
The Pfizer – BioNTech vaccine was approved in the UK in early December and people started getting vaccinated. Canada has also authorized the vaccine and vaccination is expected to begin next week.
Mexico, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia also approved the Pfizer vaccine.

Other Covid-19 vaccines include Moderna, which may be licensed for emergency approval in the US in the next week; AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford; Johnson and Johnson.
BioNTech began developing a Covid-19 vaccine in January, using a technology called synthetic information RNA (mRNA). Consequently, chemical information instructs the cell to produce a protein that mimics a part of the nCoV virus for the immune system to recognize.
Vaccines come with delivery challenges because they must be stored at minus 70 degrees Celsius, which requires specific ultra-cold freezers or a supply of dry ice.
Pfizer has developed a special shipping container filled with dry ice to prevent the vaccine from spoiling.
US health officials say they will have enough vaccine to supply 330 million people by mid-2021. The US government ordered 100 million doses of Pfizer, enough to vaccinate 50 million people and 200 million doses of Moderna.
America’s leading infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci said if distribution goes well and enough Americans agree to get vaccinated, immunization will reach a level of community immunity.
“At the end of the summer or the end of the third quarter, we can afford to immunize the community to protect society,” Fauci said.
