On April 1, NBC radio quoted US Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe as saying that China had conducted experiments on soldiers in hopes of developing super warriors with enhanced biological capabilities.
“There are no moral limits to Beijing’s quest for power,” Ratcliffe wrote.
Its offices and the CIA have yet to give details on how China wants to create a “super soldier” in the style depicted in Hollywood movies like Captain America, Bloodshot and Universal Soldier. Chinese government representatives have also made no relevant comment.
Last year, two American academics wrote about China’s ambitions to apply biotechnology to the battlefield, mentioning that China is interested in using genetic engineering to enhance human capabilities.
These scholars include expert Elsa Kania of the Center for New American Security and Wilson VornDick, a former Navy officer and expert on China affairs.
Specifically, the article covers the genetic modification of CRISPR that is often used to treat genetic and plant-modified diseases. Western scientists believe that using this technology to enhance the ability of healthy people is immoral.
In his comments to the media, Ratcliffe also said that China is a threat to the national security and economy of the United States.
“The intelligence is clear: Beijing intends to dominate the United States and the rest of the planet in the fields of economics, military and technology,” Ratcliffe said.
