Before entering the trial, observers predicted that only about 5-6 Republican senators (GOP) will vote to convict Trump, who continues to have great power within the party. Meanwhile, 17 Republican votes are needed if Democrats want to end the trial at their discretion.
During the last debating session on February 11, the impeachment group focused on one point: Trump was not only responsible for the disturbances on Capitol Hill, but also blamed the former leader, who crossed his arms and stood still. The attack took place, as well as not expressing apologies or even admitting that the loss occurred.
Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu contends that former President Trump’s response to previous unrest during his tenure shows he “has no doubts of future damage if allowed.”
“I am not afraid that Donald Trump will continue in office for another four years. I’m just afraid that he will run again and fail, because he can do it (incite violence) again, ”the CNN station quoted Mr. Lieu.
Closing the two days of impeachment, the head of the impeachment group, Senator Jamie Raskin, urged senators to convict Trump and warned of dire consequences should he be acquitted again.
“If you do not believe this is a crime, you have set a terrible new standard for the misconduct of an American president,” Senator Raskin emphasized.
After the lower house completed the indictment, it was the defense attorneys’ defense that appeared before the Senate on February 12. They are expected to complete their promotion session in one day.
