Mr. Schneider noted that China’s “dangerous” activities include breaking an agreement to protect the rights of the Hong Kong people; harass neighboring countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam; the militarization of illegal construction posts in the South China Sea; and repeated military harassment of Taiwan.
General Schneider listed China’s previous activities on October 26 shortly after landing on the CV-22 Osprey multi-role military aircraft that landed on the Japanese helicopter destroyer JS Kaga. This is the first time this aircraft has landed on the JS Kaga. This event also marked the beginning of a joint exercise called Keen Sword.

Also on JS Kaga, General Schneider said the United States could send troops to protect Senkaku / Diaoyu, disputed islands between Japan and China in the East China Sea, or respond to other crises.
This statement by Mr. Schneider was seen by Japanese defense officials as a warning against China, according to NHK. Tokyo has repeatedly voiced its opposition to Chinese maritime vessels entering Japanese-claimed waters near Senkaku / Diaoyu.
