Bloomberg on December 20, citing a source close to the idea, said that the idea was raised by Trump during a meeting at the White House on December 18, with the participation of private attorney Rudy Giuliani, White House attorney Pat Cipollone. Mark Meadows, White House Chief of Staff, and Powell.

Ms. Powell has accompanied the US presidential campaign in trials of election proceedings in many US states and supported Mr. Trump’s election fraud allegations, tHowever, many members of the meeting opposed this proposal.

Earlier, Giuliani, speaking of Ms. Powell, emphasized that the attorney is not part of the legal team of the President of the United States.

Meanwhile, the New York Times reported that the meeting also discussed Giuliani’s proposal for the Department of Homeland Security to seize the counting machines that Trump said had been fraudulent.

Trump even asked about the idea that former national security adviser Michael Flynn recently told Newsmax that the US president needs to enact martial law and deploy troops to carry out re-election.

The possibility of Trump appointing the special counsel has been much discussed since Attorney General William Barr resigned. Barr was the man who claimed that there was insufficient reason to identify large-scale election fraud.

The appointment of Ms. Powell raises the question of whether the President of the United States has the authority to appoint a special counsel as it is a position of Attorney General.

In addition, this decision may face reactions from members of the Trump team, who believe that there is no large-scale fraud in the elections.

Additionally, Powell herself was a controversial figure when she accused some Republican officials of being involved in changing the election results.
