Last night, Arsenal club announced the successful hiring of goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson from club Dijon. Consequently, “Gunners” spent 1.6 million pounds to possess the Icelandic player in four seasons.

In the short term, Runarsson will become Bernd Leno’s substitute goalkeeper in the 2020/21 season. Arsenal fell into a goalkeeping shortage after having to agree to sell Emiliano Martínez (who played very prominently the season before Leno’s absence) to Aston Villa for £ 15 million.

Runarsson was born in 1995 and spent two seasons in Ligue 1 in Dijon. In the 2018/19 season, Runnarsson started 25 games for host club Gaston Gerard. However, last season, the goalkeeper did not play much due to injury.

At Arsenal, Runarsson will meet Inaki Cana, the Gunners’ goalkeeping coach and worked with Icelandic goalkeeper Nordsjaelland (Denmark). The former Spaniard played a key role in Arsenal’s successful signing of Runarsson.

Runarsson became Arsenal’s third rookie in the 2020 summer transfer window, after midfielder Gabriel Magalhaes (from Lille) and midfielder Willian (from Chelsea).

Arsenal’s most recent rookie was in trouble because fans discovered the post was insulting former coach Arsene Wenger in 2011. Under pressure from fans, Runarsson removed the offensive remarks.
