On the night of October 15, in Phong Xuan Commune (Phong Dien District, Thua Thien Hue), just after returning from the scene of the incident, 13 officers and soldiers were found missing due to the landslide from the mountain in Forest Protection Station 67. Thua Thien Hue Provincial People’s Committee Chairman Phan Ngoc Tho shared about the rescue work in the past two days.
Mr. Tho said that at 7:20 pm on October 15 he had completed the search for the mission members and we have found the bodies of 13 comrades who died at Forest Protection Station 67. This is very painful. The same great family and the province of Thua Thien Hue.
The president of the Provincial People’s Committee added: The process of implementing the rescue operation is extremely difficult because the amount of earth and rock that spills through the house of the forest protection station is very large. That is why it is necessary to mobilize a very large rescue force with the media; especially the active and close support of the Ministry of Defense, Military Region 4.

In a relatively short time, more than 10 hours since the first body was found, the rescue team has completed the task. We were deeply distressed and tried to complete the rescue work. This is a great loss for the families, as well as for the entire town and the armed forces. On behalf of the leaders of the Thua Thien Hue province, I would like to share my deepest condolences to the families of the comrades who passed away in office.
And we also thank the Ministry of Defense for doing everything possible with the greatest sense of responsibility in the extremely difficult terrain and weather conditions to complete the mission. This is the great loss and damage that Thua Thien Hue province suffered during the last flood.
Prior to that, during the inspection and verification of information on landslides at the Rao Trang 3 hydroelectric power station, 21 officers and soldiers from Military Region 4, Provincial Military Command, People’s Committee of Thua Thien Hue Province spent the night in forest protection 67. At around 0:00 on October 13, a major landslide occurred that caused the burial of the entire block of Station 67, 8/21 lucky officers and soldiers escaped; 13 soldiers and cadres died.
