The Australian explorer does not know why he is not feeling well and has been coordinated by three countries outside of Antarctica. The medical report did not specifically reveal the person’s status, only reporting the incident that was not related to COVID-19.
This explorer was at the Australian Davis Research Station east of Antarctica when he fell ill. A Chinese icebreaker was in transit at a nearby research station and deployed helicopters to take the Australian explorer to the runway where the runway allows US aircraft to land.
Meanwhile, a US Basler-class aircraft flew from the US McMurdo Station to the Australian-operated Wilkins Airfield runway in Antarctica to pick up an Australian medic.
The Basler then flew to where the scout was waiting and took him back to the Wilkins runway. There, an Australian Airbus took the patient back to the Australian city of Hobart just before Christmas Eve.
Australia needs international assistance as it currently does not have properly equipped aircraft in Antarctica due to concerns about the transmission of the corona virus to the continent.
According to the sheet The hillThe 5-day rescue campaign lasted thousands of kilometers east of Antarctica, with ships, helicopters and planes involved.
“Antarctica really brings nations together to support each other. We are especially grateful to China and the United States for their support” – Kim Ellis, head of Australia’s Antarctic Division (AAD) said.
AAD is part of the Australian Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment, and specializes in conducting scientific programs and research projects on Antarctica.
The COVID-19 pandemic hit Antarctica earlier this week when 36 people at a Chilean research station fell ill.
