Consequently, Mr. Le Thai Phong was arrested for his role as an accomplice of his father, Mr. Le Thai Thien. Both were arrested for the act of “usury in civil transactions” according to article 201 of the Penal Code of 2015 and the act of “money laundering” according to article 324 of the Penal Code of 2015.

Mr. Thien’s father and son were detained each person for 4 months.

The search for the village “Thien Soi” did not end until the morning of December 2. During the search process, the investigating agency seized dozens of boxes of documents related to loan records and interest payments.

Notably, the law enforcement agency found that some papers were burned without a funeral, but not all.

The police also seized two shotguns and many “red books”.

According to the investigation, before that, Mr. Le Thai Thien was charged with “usury”, someone had to pay interest of ten percent per month. And the authorities initially determined that Mr. Thien was lending at an interest rate of around 10% per month.

Thien’s borrowers also accused him of intimidation, forcing them to authorize land or hand over “red books” to Mr. Thien when he was unable to pay interest.

The arrest of Mr. Thien attracted special attention to the local population. Hundreds of people gathered around the “Thien Soi” villa to watch. The police station has mobilized hundreds of officers and soldiers to maintain order.
