According to the newspaper Washington PostThe person who was rescued is the ship’s first officer (first officer) named Sareno Edvardo, 45, from the Philippines. He said that after one of the engines was damaged by waves, the ship capsized and sank in the East China Sea, off the coast of Japan.

The 11,947 tonne cargo ship Gulf Livestock 1 gave an emergency signal around 1:45 am on September 2 when the ship was about 115 nautical miles west of the Japanese island of Amami-Oshima.

During the rescue, the Japanese Navy P-3C reconnaissance aircraft found a Filipino crew in life jackets emerging from the missing Gulf Livestock 1.

This crew member was rescued by a Coast Guard patrol boat. After that, he was able to walk and was in stable health.

However, the remaining 42 crew members, including 38 Filipinos, 2 Australians and 2 New Zealanders, remain missing. Bad weather caused by storms makes rescue work very difficult.

According to Mr. Sareno Edvardo, when the ship was about to capsize, everyone on board was advised to wear life jackets. He quickly put one on and then jumped into the sea. However, when he was saved, Mr. Edvardo could no longer see anyone else.

Gulf Livestock 1, with nearly 6,000 pets leaving New Zealand on August 14, were heading for China when they encountered Typhoon Maysak.

This September 3 storm hit the southern and eastern coasts of South Korea, causing heavy rains that left thousands of homes without power and killed at least one person.

The 139-meter Gulf Livestock 1 was built in 2002, the registered owner is Rahmeh Compania Naviera SA, based in Amman, Jordan.

According to the station ABC (Australia)The Philippine government said it is working with Japanese authorities to search for the missing crew members before another storm is expected to hit the rescue area.
