With a 1.5 kg bag of rice, the poor of Saigon rejoiced and bowed to thank the owner of the rice ATM and Manh Thuong Quan for helping with the difficult social isolation.
In the past 2 days, the rice delivery point at Cafe 48, 48th Street, Hiep Binh Chanh neighborhood, Thu Duc district, Ho Chi Minh City attracts many poor people to receive free rice.
This “rice ATM” was invented by Mr. Truong Hoang Quan, owner of Cafe 48 and his friend Tran Vu An (magician), with an additional button, pedal and remote control button design.
People come to look for rice in an ordered line, at a distance of 2 m and each person receives only 1.5 kg of rice / day.
Mr. Tran Vu An said that the Covid-19 epidemic had affected many people. But when he learned that the trees of Mr. Hoang Tuan Anh’s “rice ATM” appeared, his generosity spread everywhere, he was very moved and wanted to do something for people who were tougher than him.
He and a cafe owner donated nearly 40 million dong to buy equipment to make this automatic rice generator system.
He said, “Rice ATM” is equipped with a fingerprint recognition system rather than a facial recognition system. People who come looking for rice will be fingerprinted and will automatically update within 24 hours to help control how long it takes to get rice many times.
“I decided to do charity work, so I did not install facial recognition technology. Everyone who came to me will play with the motto, if I find it difficult, I will participate,” shared Mr. An.
Hiep Binh Ward People’s Committee Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan said he is very supportive and wants this model to be widely shared in order to have more points to distribute rice to people in difficult circumstances.
“A piece of hunger equals a package when it is full. 1-2 kg of rice right now with people in trouble is very valuable ”- said Mr. Tuan.
