According to the flight schedule, flight VN 243 with Boeing 787-9 aircraft will depart at 8:00 am on November 2. Once the passenger is seated and the aircraft rolls from the platform to the runway for departure, a passenger in seat 20A uses a lighter to light a tissue.

The passenger then quickly put out the flames and did not cause any fire or damage to the aircraft. However, the Vietnam Airlines flight attendant discovered the incident and reported it to the captain.

The captain immediately returned the aircraft to the station, reported the incident, and handed over the aforementioned passengers to airport security, the North Airport Authority for further handling.

After that, flight VN243 took off normally at 9:15 a.m. on November 2.

In the information released about the incident, Vietnam Airlines wants passengers to sympathize in case the operating hours need to be changed due to this incident.

Tran Hoai Phuong, director of the North Airport Authority, said the behavior of passengers is disruptive and threatens aviation safety. The Airport Authority will clarify the facts and will sanction in accordance with the provisions of Decree 162 on sanctioning administrative offenses in the civil aviation sector.
