The pilot pulled out a syringe in the sky

Pilot Samy Kramer flew the syringe-shaped aircraft over southern Germany, as the country began vaccinating Covid-19 across the country.

The Diamond DA20 Katana, a light two-seater aircraft, departed on December 23 from the city of Friedrichshafen, in the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg, and took almost two hours to complete the route. Kramer is considered to have created a stunning “work of art” when the drawing is so detailed that two drops of solution can be seen at the tip of the needle.

“Right now, I have to collect a lot of flight hours. Instead of just flying the plane as usual, I want to create a sketch in the air as a message that everyone should get vaccinated,” Kramer said in an interview. adding that having to move precisely along the planned route is really a challenge.

Kramer’s flight came just before Germany began its massive Covid-19 vaccination campaign on December 26. The vaccine used, jointly developed by the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer and the German biotechnology company BioNTech, was the first vaccine to be used in the West since UK approval on December 2.

Flight-tracking site FlightRadar24 shared a photo of Kramer’s specially shaped trip on Twitter, adding that several other pilots have also painted pandemic-related images in recent months.

However, Kramer’s flight also received mixed reviews on social media. While many praised the theme and the message it skillfully conveyed, others called it a waste of fuel.
