According to the results of voter surveys on the establishment of a new administrative unit in Ho Chi Minh City, District 2 is the area with the highest proportion of people who disagree with the name of the city of Thu Duc between the three districts.
Out of more than 72,100 voters in District 2, nearly 14,600 voters disagreed in naming the city of Thu Duc for the merged administrative unit of District 2, District 9 and District of Thu Duc.
The number of disagreeing voters in District 2 represents 20.34% of the total number of voters in District 2, the highest of the three districts (District 9: 3.19%, Thu Duc District: 1.15 %).
Information from the Popular Committee for District 2 shows that 194 voters have different opinions on the name of the new administrative unit. Other names that people highly recommend are: East City, Thu Duc New City, Saigon City …
People from the An Phu neighborhood came up with names like Thu Thiem Town, Saigon Gia Dinh Town or East Saigon Town …
Thus, in a total of three districts with more than 400,000 voters, there are more than 21,300 voters disagreeing with the name of the city of Thu Duc, more than 1,800 other opinions by the name of the new administrative unit of the district.
The popular district councils are expected to approve the results of the voter surveys on the name of the new administrative unit after merging the three districts before presenting them to the city’s People’s Committee on January 10, 2021.
The Popular City Council is expected to consider issuing a resolution on this poll on October 12.
