HCMCHeavy rain, oil trees on Nguyen Tri Phuong Street, District 10, overturned, crushing the injured motorcycle driver; The Thu Duc district area was heavily flooded on the afternoon of September 24.
3:30 pm, heavy rain, strong wind, oil tree about 30 m high, 70 cm in diameter, in front of the University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City, fell down the road. A 30-year-old man riding a motorcycle from Nguyen Tri Phuong roundabout to 3/2 Street was run over by a tree. They all ran to rescue the victim.
Ms. Ha Thi Kim, Chairperson of the People’s Committee of Ward 5, District 10, said the victim was taken to the emergency room at Cho Ray Hospital and has not been identified for not carrying identification documents. “The doctor originally diagnosed the victim with a traumatic brain injury, she was in a coma,” Kim said.
In the scene, the oil plant has a healthy stem, but the roots show signs of rot, blocking two lanes. The motorcycle was crushed. The median strip was also damaged. Because the trees block the road, traffic in the area is congested.
Dozens of fire officers and personnel from HCM City Green Park Co., Ltd came to cut down trees and clean up the scene.
The torrential rain of more than an hour caused that many routes such as To Ngoc Van, Kha Van Can, Vo Van Ngan (Thu Duc district), Quoc Huong (district 2), Le Van Viet (district 9) … were flooded to a large degree. The UID Maps application of the urban sewerage and drainage company in Ho Chi Minh City announced 7 flooded spots.
At the intersection of To Ngoc Van – Pham Van Dong (Thu Duc district), the water flows like a waterfall. The road is only flooded more than 100 m, but many people do not dare to pass because the water flows, flooding up to the knees. Traffic police actively whistle to guide pedestrians to change direction to avoid flooding.
On Highway 14 that connects to To Ngoc Van Street, the water is at the waist. Some people tried to run past, but after walking a few meters, the car stalled and he had to walk in the rain.
About a kilometer away, at the To Ngoc Van – Linh Dong intersection, hundreds of motorcyclists stopped in the middle of the road because the floods could not pass. Mr. Binh, 43, said that with about 30 minutes of heavy rain, the road was like a river, the water was flowing, many people fell. “I have to stay here to guide the students and women through the floodplain. The water runs fast, be careful it’s easy to fall,” Binh said.
On both sides of the road, households use wooden planks, thick plastic bars to protect themselves and prevent water from flowing into the house. Many people carry plastic cups, splashing water to prevent objects in the house from getting wet. Some people bring raincoats, wear hats in the positions of the manhole covers, the ditches collect trash, clean the flow to run faster.
Mr. Le Dinh Quyet, Deputy Head of the Forecasting Department of the Southern Regional Hydrometeorology Station, said that the low pressure trench has an axis through the South Central Coast connected with a low vortex that forms in the middle of the East Sea. This gives the southwest monsoon a moderate to strong intensity. In Ho Chi Minh City and the south, the weather changes with clouds, sunny day, afternoon and night with rain and thunderstorms.
This afternoon’s rainfall measured at Thu Duc station was 83.8 mm. “The reason Ho Chi Minh City is raining heavily this afternoon is due to the low vortex moving from south to southwest towards the continental south,” Quyet said.
