Each year, more than 200,000 Vietnamese die from cardiovascular disease, twice the number of people lost to cancer; The disease tends to rejuvenate, according to associate professor Pham Nguyen Vinh.
Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Pham Nguyen Vinh – Director of the Heart Center, Tam Anh General Hospital HCMC emphasized that cardiovascular diseases are a burden on the family and society. Every year, the world has 17.9 million people who die from diseases related to cardiovascular diseases. Of these, 85% were due to a heart attack and stroke. The cost of care and treatment also creates an economic burden in the billions of dollars each year. In Vietnam, the number of people who die from cardiovascular disease accounts for 30% of deaths, double the deaths from cancer.
Cardiovascular disease is increasingly rejuvenating
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), of the 10 causes of death, cardiovascular diseases account for the highest proportion, of which ischemic heart disease accounts for 16%, stroke accounts for 11% of the deaths mentioned. Global … Yes In the past, cardiovascular diseases such as coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, cerebral artery disease … appeared frequently in the elderly, today, they are increasingly more young people who suffer from this disease.
The Vietnam Heart Institute also received myocardial infarction patients at the age of 30, even 28 years old. Associate Professor Pham Nguyen Vinh said that the number of people with hypertension under the age of 40 represents 16.5%. Many people between the ages of 30 and 35 also suffer from cardiovascular disease, and many people have died of a heart attack.
Common reasons for the increase in cardiovascular disease among young people are alcohol abuse; smoking (both active and passive); sedentary; being overweight, having a history of diabetes, high blood pressure; staying up late; stress, psychological pressure; Unscientific diet leads to obesity …
Cardiovascular diseases include: coronary artery disease, heart valve disease, congenital heart disease, aortic disease, peripheral artery disease, heart failure, rheumatism, cardiomyopathy, arrhythmia … In which coronary artery disease and cerebral stroke are the causes of death or disability. the majority. In particular, coronary artery disease caused by acute myocardial infarction, acute coronary syndrome can cause rapid death or lead to heart failure and subsequent death. In addition, stroke is also very dangerous and leaves many sequelae.
Associate Professor Pham Nguyen Vinh shared that coronary artery disease is currently common and very dangerous, it is the leading cause of death in Vietnam and the world. About 20 years ago, most patients had rheumatism, heart valve disease; But today, more than 50% of cardiovascular patients are due to coronary artery disease. 90% of coronary patients is due to atherosclerosis that causes narrowing of the blood vessels.
There are 4 main factors that cause atherosclerosis that patients often suffer from. These include smoking, being overweight, obesity with hyperlipidemic disorders, diabetes, and uncontrolled hypertension. Stress is also a risk factor for coronary artery disease. Fathers who suffer from the disease and die when they are under 65 and mothers under 60 have their children at high risk.
High blood pressure is known to be the main risk factor for coronary artery disease and stroke. The rate of myocardial infarction and stroke in patients with hypertension is 3 and 4 times higher than in healthy people.
In the 1980s, about 10% of people had blood pressure, now one in four adults has hypertension. Previously, patients with primary hypertension were between 60 and 70 years old. Currently, people under 40 years of age represent 20% of all cases of hypertension.
Research from the Vietnam Heart Institute shows that around 12 million people have high blood pressure, of which 9.7 million people are unaware that they are sick or are not receiving effective treatment. Patients with hypertension usually present symptoms of headache, headache, neck fatigue, dizziness, nausea … However, many other patients do not have symptoms.
High blood pressure can cause 4 complications. It is the thickening of the heart that causes heart failure, eye complications that blind patients, kidney complications, and brain complications. According to Associate Professor Pham Nguyen Vinh, patients with hypertension can develop acute myocardial complications after 5 to 10 or 20 years, if they are not diagnosed correctly and not treated promptly.
Also, 8 out of every 1000 babies are born with congenital heart disease. Every year, our country has between 10,000 and 12,000 children with congenital heart disease. However, only 6,000 children received surgical treatment, the rest of whom were waiting or died before the disease was discovered. Congenital heart disease can be life-threatening if not detected early and intervened in time.
Cardiovascular disease can be prevented
People with cardiovascular diseases present signs such as shortness of breath, chest pain, frequent fatigue, persistent cough, nausea, loss of appetite, nervousness, irregular heartbeat, anxiety, fainting, edema …
These signs are often ignored by the patient because they are subjective, until they get worse, making treatment difficult, ineffective and expensive. Therefore, the doctors said that patients with these symptoms should immediately need medical facilities with cardiologists to be examined, accurately diagnosed and treated as effectively as possible.
The village doctors, associate professors, doctors, Dr. Nguyen Thi Bach Yen, head of the cardiology department of Hanoi Tam Anh General Hospital, also shared that many patients came to the hospital with severe heart failure and abdominal distention, enlargement , swelling of the legs … Some patients voluntarily take oriental medicine, which causes a delay in the treatment time. Dr. Bach Yen recommends not arbitrarily using any medication without the consent of the physician. In the case of a severe open valve, valve repair surgery can only treat the disease, the drug is only a supportive function. Therefore, patients need a timely examination for early treatment.
Prompt examination immediately when there are abnormal symptoms helps to shorten the time and increase the effectiveness of the treatment. Currently, to increase diagnostic accuracy, Tam Anh Hospital uses a CT system using artificial intelligence imported from Germany, capable of capturing 768 slices in one rotation, scanning whole body micro-tomography in just 3 to 4 seconds. Advanced technology magnetic resonance imaging machine that captures the heart without holding your breath. Ultrasound of the heart, ultrasound of blood vessels (carotid arteries, peripheral blood vessels …), new generation 4D imaging to support cardiac surgery, cardiac catheterization in heart valve disease, and 4D cardiac accumulation function and volume probing . The electrocardiograph and ECG recorder continuously for 24 hours to 14 days to detect irregular rhythm disturbances. 24-hour blood pressure monitor helps early detection of hypertension … supports screening and early detection of cardiovascular disease for all subjects, including children.
