The Yă Tao elephants were bought by Mr. Ksor Cham (in Chu Mo commune, Ia Pa district) at an elephant market in Dak Lak in 1990. After the death of Mr. Cham, Siu Kiem’s son-in-law He took his father’s place to take care of Yă Tao. Every day, Yao Tao was cared for and raised by Mr. Siu Kiem in Chu Tol village. When he died, the elephant Yau Tao defined himself as 50 years old.

From early 2014 until now, Ya Tao is the last living elephant in the North Central Highlands. Before that, Nhon Hoa Village, Nhon Hoa Commune (Chu Pok District), and Chu Mo Village (Ia Pa District) were famous for including the domestication of elephants. In 1975, the elephants of Nhon Hoa had about 30 children. In 1992, the number of elephants decreased to 14. In early 2014, the Yă Tao elephant was the last living elephant in Gia Lai.
