Six years ago, Colonel Nguyen Huu Hung was assigned by Vice Premier Hoang Trung Hai to command the rescue force. at the Da Dang hydroelectric tunnel, Lam Dong. Consequently, the force that built the tunnel was left with 110 soldiers from the 293rd Engineering Brigade. This is the main brigade that excavates the tunnel to rescue 12 workers trapped inside.
At the time, Colonel Nguyen Huu Hung was the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army Corps of Engineers.

Sharing on the scene at the time, Colonel Hung said that the engineer force was 2 days later than the first forces. The rescue was successful and removed the 12 people trapped inside the Da Dang Hydroelectric Tunnel at dusk on December 19, 2014.
Speaking about the tunnel journey, Colonel Hung said: “We propose the option of opening the shortest path and we can say that the engineering area is the most difficult. We use scientific construction methods and we have some traditional methods such as the “sand tunnel” method, so the construction process has overcome the initial difficulty in conditions of very high groundwater, rocky soil. Colonel Nguyen Huu Hung said that the engineer force successfully rescued 12 victims at the Da Dang hydroelectric power plant due to the army’s preparation from peacetime, before the mission was carried out.
“Preparing a good army is training well, raising pawns and the main thing is to generate determination and political courage in the soldiers. If any journalist can enter the basement, it is clear that the slide is very large.
