The European Union (EU) ambassador to Vietnam, Giorgio Aliberti, and the director of the French Development Agency (AFD) in Vietnam, Fabrice Richy, on May 11 signed an agreement to establish the Fund for Water Management and Natural Resources (WARM))
Under the agreement, the EU provides non-repayable aid of € 20 million to AFD. Through coordination with Vietnam’s central and local governments, AFD will mobilize WARM funds to prepare and implement investment projects co-financed through AFD loans and AFD resources. Vietnam itself in the period 2021-2029 with a total capital estimated at 200 million euros.
This new fund aims to improve the management capacity of Vietnam’s water resources and coastal areas for sustainable development.

“The purpose of this € 20 million grant is to support Vietnam on its path to a greener and more resilient future,” said EU Ambassador Giorgio Aliberti.
Mr. Aliberti added that strengthening natural resource management will help restore and protect ecosystems, improve the resilience of the local population, and minimize the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
AFD Country Director Fabrice Richy emphasized that the WARM Fund directly addresses the needs of Vietnamese partners, including beneficiary provinces, by accelerating project evaluation and implementation. strategic investment
Vietnam is one of the countries severely affected by climate change and natural disasters.
